VACANCY: Early Career/Postdoctoral Representative for the BAVS Executive Committee

BAVS Early Career/Postdoctoral Representative x 1 (3-year term)

The BAVS Executive Committee currently has a position open for a new Early Career/Postdoctoral Representative (3-year term). If you would like to be considered, please send the Secretary, Dr Claire Wood, an email with a Statement of Interest (indicating your suitability for and interest in the position and how you propose to contribute) of 300 words maximum and a short CV (max 2 pages) by 5 pm (GMT) Wednesday 10th September 2025. Please note that to qualify as an Early Career/Postdoctoral Representative, you will need to have completed your PhD studies.

Role Description
Develop Early Career/Postdoctoral initiatives and find ways to provide support for the ECR community with both an academic and alt-ac focus; plan and support ECR activities for the BAVS Conference and other relevant events; work with the PGR Reps, Careers Officer and Digital/Social Media Officer on BAVS social media presence and various initiatives relevant to ECR Members; manage ECR JISCmailing list; participate in monthly BAVS ‘Tea Time’ socials.

AEP Lecturer in Defence Studies, Kings College LondonFull time, fixed term, 39-47k
The Department of Defence Studies seeks to recruit two Lecturers in Defence Studies Education on the King’s Academic Education Pathway (AEP) to contribute to the Department’s teaching and research capacity in defence studies. Both are Fixed Term Contracts, one for one year and one for two years. The successful applicants will be based in the Defence Studies Department at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham and will undertake high-quality scholarship and support a range of professional military and security education courses at the postgraduate level. Successful candidates will teach and supervise students who are serving officers and civil servants in the UK and allied armed forces and partners.

Curator of Photographic Collections (Maternity Cover), National Museums Liverpool Full time, fixed term, 33.7K
Reporting to the Lead Archivist (Maritime & Slavery Collections), the Curator of Photographic Collections will be responsible for managing and developing the Maritime Museum’s internationally significant photographic collections, ensuring they are accessible and impactful both in Liverpool and beyond.Given the scale of the collections, strong collection management skills are essential. These collections are exceptional, and we are committed to increasing their visibility and use — so the role requires a proactive approach to promoting, facilitating, and encouraging engagement with the material in diverse and creative ways.

FELLOWSHIP: LSE Library Fellowships 2025The scheme is designed to support researchers wishing to travel to London to consult our unique archives and special collections. It includes a grant of up to £5,000 to support visits of up to 6 weeks (or part-time equivalent) by covering or contributing to the costs of travel,accommodation and other subsistence expenses. LSE Library invite proposals for original research which provide new perspectives on the collections, whether surfacing hidden histories in well-known collections, or drawing on collections that are not yet part of mainstream academic discourse. They are particularly interested in proposals which might form the basis for future collaborations with the library,especially those which have the potential to attract external funding.There are x3 Fellowships are available: 1. Politics and International Relations; 2. Economic and Social Policy; 3. Equality, Citizenship, and Rights
